Route 66 Week Seven

Week Seven

Welcome to week 7 in the Route 66 series. I am thankful that you are here. We have covered a lot of information from this series, and I want to get started on the next point in this series. Last week we covered Remember to stop, rest, and eat. This week we will cover spiritual GPS. So, let’s look at the next point in this series.

7. Don’t get ahead of your GPS… As I was writing this out and trying to listen to the voice of God on what to speak on, I heard him say this point about GPS and I stopped and said, Lord? GPS? I don’t know if that is in there… Then I heard these words… God’s Precious Steps… I kind of giggled and said ok. I got it. If you don’t follow your GPS (God’s Precious Steps), you will get lost. We are called to follow Him. It is up to us to answer that call when we hear His voice. I hear in the back of my mind the question; how do I know it’s Him? We learn his voice as we strengthen out relationship with Him. When we pray, fast, seek His face and strive to put away the things of this world and allow His will to be done in our lives in stead of our own, that is how we draw closer to him in relationship. He said in His word If you draw nigh unto me, I will draw nigh unto you. He longs for us to come close to Him. He longs for relationship with us and in that relationship is how we learn his voice and become familiar with his presence in our lives.

John 10:27-28 says: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

I am reminded right now of one of my husband’s favorite poems. It is called footprints in the sand. He loves that poem. I do as well, but just like the person that wrote that we look down at times as we follow Jesus and we are walking with Him and trouble comes and we see only one set of footprints in the sand and in our frail humanity we think oh Lord, why have you left me? Is that why we are having trouble? Is that why this trial is here? But just like in the poem … the one set of footprints in the sand doesn’t mean he has left us, that is when he is carrying us. We just must remember that he is there, and he loves us. He said He would never leave us nor forsake us and we much stand on that. It’s his promise to us.

He loves us and has called us to follow Him. Let me stop right here for a second. He called us. That us is ALL of us. He said in Mark 8:34 34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. He will order our steps if we allow Him to do so. That “whosoever” speaks to us all. It is for everyone. From the so-called worst of the worst to the best of the best. No one is excluded in His call for us. He called us all. We have a choice to follow Him as He has given the invitation and He will lead us IF we allow Him to. It says in Ps. 37:23…

Ps. 37:23 says: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

And Ps. 119:105 says: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Back when this scripture was written a lamp was a candle… Now if you have candles on your feet and you walk too fast what happens? Your candlelight will blow out and you will lose your way. This tells me that I do not need to walk faster than the light of our Lord Jesus can brighten the way and lead me. :) We must move slow enough to follow in God’s Precious Steps. It is when we run ahead of God that we fall. Now He knew we would fall at times so if this happens in our lives and It will… We can stand on His word that says When I fall, I shall arise. Notice he said WHEN I fall… not IF I fall… He knew we would fall. That is why he gave the avenue of repentance to be able to get up again. When we fall and we get back up and try again, that is walking. We stop walking when we fall and stay down and give up. We must get up and begin to walk again with Him. Allow His precious steps to lead us into His will for our lives. This takes our putting our will aside and allowing His will to be done. Listening for His voice and then obeying what he is calling us to do. This is how we follow our spiritual GPS. So today I ask you to walk in our God’s precious steps.

QUESTION:

1. What are ways that you hear God’s voice?
